In late 2021, Lenovo released Tab P12 Pro, a premium Android tablet with great specs but a high price. Now, almost two years later, non-Pro Lenovo Tab P12 is here offering similar features at half the cost.

For just £399, you get a tablet with a large 12.7-inch 3K display, a solid quad-speaker setup, a stylish design and a bundled stylus.

Lenovo also offers an optional package with a full mechanical keyboard case, turning Tab P12 into a portable productivity device for £499 – much cheaper than an iPad or Galaxy Tab S9 with a similar keyboard.

While competitors like Oppo, OnePlus and Xiaomi have strong mid-range tablets, Lenovo Tab P12 stands out with its large, affordable design.

Lenovo Tab P12 Review: Design & Build

Lenovo Tab P12 has a sleek, metal body that looks stylish but is big and heavy. At 6.9mm thick and weighing 630g, it’s larger than Tab P12 Pro and other tablets like the Xiaomi Pad 6. It’s a bit bulky, so you might want to use the official case for extra comfort. Even though it’s heavy, it’s still lighter than the iPad Pro 12.9.

This tablet feels premium thanks to its all-metal design, with flat surfaces and rounded corners. It only comes in one color—Storm Grey—which looks professional but a bit plain.

Fingerprint sensor is on the power button, but it’s small and hard to use. Sometimes, it doesn’t work as well as expected, which can be frustrating.

Lenovo Tab P12 Review: Stylus & Accessories

Tab P12 comes with a stylus, Lenovo Tab Pen Plus which attaches to the back of the tablet with a magnet. This stylus provides a smooth writing and drawing experience with 4,096 pressure levels and tilt detection. It also has palm rejection, so you can hold the tablet while using it. The stylus is a great tool, especially considering it usually costs £50.

Lenovo also offers a keyboard and case, which were included in my test model. Both are well-made, though they add extra weight to the tablet. If you’re carrying the tablet, case, and keyboard, it might feel heavy compared to a lightweight laptop or Chromebook.

Keyboard attaches easily to the tablet with magnets and has a solid typing experience, similar to a full-sized laptop. It includes app shortcut keys that let you quickly open your most-used apps. The case is sturdy and provides a good kickstand, so you can adjust the tablet to any angle. While it’s not quite like using a real laptop, it works well for tablet use, and it has a pocket to keep the stylus secure.

Lenovo Tab P12 Review: Screen & Speakers

The Lenovo Tab P12 has a large 12.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 3K resolution (2944 x 1840). While it’s bigger than most rivals, it doesn’t have the same vibrant colors and deep blacks as the Pro model’s AMOLED screen. It also has a 60Hz refresh rate, which is lower than the Xiaomi Pad 6 and OnePlus Pad.

The screen isn’t the brightest, reaching a maximum of 400 nits, but it still offers good color accuracy with 94% sRGB coverage. It works well for viewing content, but it’s not ideal in bright lighting.

The tablet has four JBL speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos. They provide loud and clear sound with good stereo separation, though not the richest audio. Lenovo also offers a matt display version, designed to reduce glare and maintain consistent contrast, but we didn’t test this model.

Lenovo Tab P12 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor, which is similar to the Dimensity 1080 used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro. This means it has the same performance as that £340 smartphone from 2022.

This isn’t a bad thing. The processor performs well, even with the 12.7-inch 3K display, as it only needs to handle a 60Hz refresh rate. It’s paired with 8GB of RAM, which helps with general navigation, switching apps, and light gaming. There might be occasional pauses or stutters, but overall, the experience is good.

The tablet comes with 128GB of storage and a microSD card slot for extra space. When compared to other mid-range tablets, the Lenovo Tab P12 isn’t the fastest in terms of benchmarks, falling behind the OnePlus Tab and Xiaomi Pad 5. However, it performs better than the Oppo Pad Air. While it’s a solid performer, it’s not the standout tablet in its category.

Lenovo Tab P12 Review: Cameras

Lenovo Tab P12 has an 8MP rear camera which is basic but can take decent photos in good lighting. The quality isn’t amazing, with limited detail and contrast but it can work in a pinch.

The front camera is a 13MP ultra-wide camera, mainly for video calls. As a selfie camera, it’s not great, with soft images and blown-out highlights. However, the ultra-wide angle is useful for video calls, and it has AI face tracking, but I didn’t notice much difference during a call.

Lenovo Tab P12 has a large 10,200mAh battery to power its big screen. However, it only lasts around 7.5 hours on a full charge during normal use like web browsing, editing and writing.

While it’s 20 minutes better than the Pro model, it still falls behind other mid-range tablets like the OnePlus Pad and Xiaomi Pad 5. Even the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 lasts longer at over 10 hours.

The tablet supports up to 30W fast charging, but the included charger is only 20W. This means it takes about an hour to charge up to half and around 2.5 hours to fully charge. It’s not the fastest, so don’t count on a quick recharge before heavy use.

Lenovo Tab P12 Review: Software

Lenovo Tab P12 runs on Android 13 with thoughtful customizations from Lenovo. It’s a clean and user-friendly version of Android, showing that Lenovo has learned from its Motorola smartphone brand.

One helpful addition is “Entertainment Space,” located on the left of the home screen, where the Google Feed would usually be. It gives you quick access to media apps like Disney+, Google Play games, eBooks, and music or podcasts you’ve streamed. While I often used the individual apps, this feature can be useful for casual media browsing.

Lenovo also offers some small features for the included stylus, like a shortcut menu for screenshots, notes, and presentation tools. One handy shortcut lets you quickly open a floating notepad by pressing and tapping the screen.

For productivity, Lenovo now has a MacOS-like interface with key apps always visible at the bottom of the screen. It works best with the Virtual Navigation option, especially if you’re using the keyboard case. Lenovo’s UI is flexible, allowing you to adjust things like notifications and app layouts to suit your needs.

Lenovo Tab P12 starts at £379.99 in the UK and $283.49 in the US, available directly from Lenovo’s website. All models come with the Tab Pen Plus stylus, but for £449.99/$323.99, you can also get the keyboard case, turning it into a hybrid laptop.

If you’re interested in new Lenovo Tab P12 with a Matte Display, it’s priced at £349.99 in the UK. Tablet with the keyboard case bundle costs £419.99. This version isn’t available in the US yet.

If you’re mainly looking for a tablet for web browsing and gaming, the Xiaomi Pad 5 and OnePlus Pad are better options. But if you want to do a bit of sketching, note-taking, and typing, the Lenovo Tab P12 is a strong choice.
