The Asus Vivobook 16 X1607QA has a simple and clean design. Our Cool Silver model looks a bit plain, but there’s also a Quiet Blue version that looks nicer.

The lid is plain, with just a small Asus Vivobook logo. Inside, the screen has a thick frame, especially at the top and bottom, which makes it look like there’s a gap when closed — but it’s just how it looks.

The silver body is brightened up by black keys, which makes the keyboard easier to see. However, the black keys can show fingerprints more easily.

Most of the ports are on the left side, while the right side has only one port and a few bright status lights. There’s a small cutout at the front to help open the lid easily, and you don’t have to worry about smudging the webcam, which is a nice touch.

The bottom of the laptop has a textured gray surface with small openings for air flow. The design helps prevent hot air from going back inside the laptop.

The 180° hinge lets you lay the screen flat, but it’s not really necessary for daily use. In fact, opening the lid all the way can block the fan vents.

Build quality is decent for a plastic laptop. It feels strong enough, but it does pick up fingerprints and scratches quickly.

The main downside is the weight. At 1.88 kg (4.14 lbs), it feels heavy, especially when carrying the charger.

The Asus Vivobook 16 X1607QA features a 16-inch IPS LCD with a 1920×1200 resolution. It supports a 40-60Hz refresh rate with VRR (variable refresh rate). The screen has a matte anti-glare finish and reaches up to 300 nits of brightness. There’s no touch support or HDR.

Asus doesn’t claim any specific color accuracy for this model, and it shows. The display mostly covers the sRGB color space, but some colors look a bit dull. We couldn’t do full calibration as our tool wasn’t recognized by the laptop, even with drivers installed.

You can adjust the color temperature and blue light filter, but the screen still has a cool, bluish tone. The Vivid mode tries to boost colors but mostly just increases the gamma, without improving the color range.

The 300 nits brightness feels okay indoors and works outdoors in shaded areas. Under direct sunlight, though, it becomes hard to see. Thankfully, the anti-glare coating helps reduce reflections, making the screen more usable in bright environments.

The display offers good contrast for an IPS panel, though it can’t match OLED or VA panels. Viewing angles are solid from all sides.

For motion, there is some ghosting, especially in fast videos or games, but it’s not too distracting.

Display is fine for web browsing, office tasks and media playback. However, with OLED screens becoming more common, an OLED panel would have made this laptop much better for watching movies or videos.

The Asus Vivobook 16 X1607QA comes with a backlit chiclet keyboard with 1.7mm key travel. It includes a full set of keys plus a numeric keypad on the side. The top row functions as shortcuts by default but can be switched to traditional function keys.

Typing feels comfortable, with spacious keys, good feedback, and quiet operation. The white backlight works well in the dark, and the black keycaps ensure clear visibility even during the day—better than some models with silver keys.

One downside is the missing right-side Control key, replaced by the Copilot key. Unfortunately, Windows doesn’t let you remap it freely—you can disable it, set it to Windows Search, or assign it to another AI app like ChatGPT, but not to standard functions like Control. This is a common issue across many Copilot-branded laptops, not just this model.

The trackpad is also impressive in size, measuring 13cm x 8.5cm, and sits flush with the laptop base. Although it uses a plastic surface, it feels smooth and supports clicks on about 80% of the surface. However, the click sound isn’t very satisfying and causes some vibration across the bottom half of the laptop.

Keyboard and trackpad on the X1607QA offer a comfortable typing and navigation experience, making them great for daily work and productivity.

By default, the speakers deliver clear audio with no noticeable distortion, even at high volumes. However, due to their down-firing design, they lack clarity in the upper mid and high frequencies.

Over the past year, more ARM64 apps have become available, with many popular apps offering versions for ARM alongside x86. While this is an improvement, users need to know how to download the right version. Some apps will automatically download the correct version, but others require the user to select it manually.

The Snapdragon X chip works well for everyday tasks like browsing and office work. It struggles with 4K video, but it’s fast for most things, even when running on battery.

The 16GB RAM is enough for most tasks. The laptop only slows down when doing heavy work like video editing.

The Snapdragon X chip isn’t good for gaming. Games like God of War don’t run well, but lighter games like Among Us and Ace Attorney work fine. This laptop is fine for casual gaming but not for more intense games.

The laptop stays cool and quiet most of the time. The fan is almost silent, only getting loud when doing heavy tasks. If you’re in Whisper or Standard mode, it stays quiet but it gets louder in Full-speed mode.

The 50Wh battery in the X1607QA lasts longer than expected because of the Snapdragon X1-26-100 chip.
