Plantronics Voyager 5200 Design and fit
Voyager headsets are big and very noticeable, which can be a good thingโitโs clear youโre wearing a headset and not talking to yourself. The Voyager 5200 has a 2.25-inch behind-the-ear piece and a 2.75-inch red-and-black boom, making it hard to miss.
Previous Voyager models fit well due to their secure over-the-ear design. However, the 5200 doesnโt fit as comfortably for me, especially with glasses, as the ear hook seems shorter. The earbud also sits a bit high until adjusted, which affects sound volume.
The headset has a physical on/off switch at the back and two easy-to-find volume buttons on top. The boom includes call and voice command buttons. The boom rotates, making the headset reversible for either ear, and it comes with three different eartip sizes for the best fit.
Feature-wise, the 5200 is fully loaded. It connects via NFC or Bluetooth and can pair with multiple devices. It announces callersโ names and lets you answer or ignore calls using voice commands. You can also dictate texts and get directions, and a smartphone app, Plantronics Hub, helps you find the headset and check battery life. However, it wonโt read texts to you.
Plantronics Voyager 5200 Performance
Thanks to its large size, the Voyager 5200 has great range, reaching up to 60 feet when in sight of the phone, though calls start breaking up after 40 feet. When interference happens, it comes through as pops and clicks, making voices easier to hear compared to other headsets that produce garbled noise.
The 5200 has strong noise cancellation, blocking out cars and buses easily, though wind noise can still slip through (a common issue for Voyager headsets). Itโs a great option for noisy environments.
However, the battery life is a bit disappointing. It lasts about 5 hours and 16 minutes, less than the promised 7 hours. If thatโs a concern, thereโs an optional $39.99 charging case that holds two extra charges. The headset can either be stored inside or placed on top, ready for use.

Conclusion
Plantronics Voyager headsets are well-regarded for their excellent voice quality and have been for many years. If you already have an older model, like the Voyager Legend, you probably donโt need to get the new Voyager 5200. It still works great and serves its purpose well.
However, if you are looking for a Bluetooth headset that you can use a lot, both inside and outside, Voyager 5200 is a strong option. It sets a high standard that we use to evaluate other headsets. Because of its impressive performance and features it has earned our Editors’ Choice award. Overall, Voyager 5200 is a great choice for anyone who needs a reliable headset for everyday use.
