TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Review – A Smart 4K TV Packed with Features

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV offers great picture quality, gaming features, and Google TV at an affordable price with few compromises.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV is a really good option if you’re looking for a nice TV without spending too much money. I checked it out, and honestly, for the price of around $599, it offers great value. Of course, it’s not as good as an expensive OLED TV when it comes to picture quality, but if you’re on a budget, this is a great choice. You still get a very good viewing experience without paying a high price.

What I like about this TV is that it uses Mini-LED and quantum dot technology, which really helps improve the picture quality. The colors look bright and vibrant, and it works well even in rooms that have a lot of light. I also noticed that when you turn on modes like Filmmaker Mode or Dolby Vision IQ HDR, the picture looks even better. It’s easy to switch to these modes with just a few clicks, and you’ll really see the difference.

Now, the sound is not that great. It’s fine for normal use, but sometimes it feels a bit weak or inconsistent. I think adding a soundbar would make the experience much better. Also, the TV handles glare okay, but it could be improved. The bigger sizes like 85-inch and 98-inch have a matte finish that helps with glare, but if you buy the 75-inch or smaller version, you might still notice some reflections in bright rooms.

Even with these small issues, I think the TCL QM6K is still a great TV for the price. It has a lot of good features, and the picture quality is impressive for a budget-friendly TV. Honestly, I won’t be surprised if it becomes one of the best budget TVs out there. So, if you’re looking for a good TV that gives you great value for your money, this one is definitely worth considering.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Price and availabilty Review

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV is a new model for 2025, but it’s already available in many stores, and the good thing is you can find it on sale for a cheaper price. Even though it’s new, you can save a few hundred dollars if you check the current deals.

Here are the latest prices for each size:

  • 55-inch: $599.99
  • 65-inch: $799.99
  • 75-inch: $999.99
  • 85-inch: $1,499.99
  • 98-inch: $2,299.99

One thing to know is that the 85-inch and 98-inch models have a special matte finish on the screen, which helps reduce glare. So, if you’re worried about reflections, the bigger sizes handle that better.

I reviewed the 55-inch model, which I bought from Amazon, and it doesn’t have that matte finish. But our Senior TV Editor, Michael Desjardin, saw the matte screen at CES 2025 and said it really helps with glare.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Design and Remote Experience Review

The TCL QM6K may not have the fancy design like Samsung’s The Frame, but for a budget-friendly TV, it actually looks pretty sleek. I’ve used it in my office before switching to the Hisense U6N, and honestly, the TCL looks slimmer with thinner bezels. The Hisense is definitely bulkier in comparison.

To keep the TV stable, TCL provides a pair of slim, wide-set feet that are easy to attach with a few screws. I was able to set it up on my own without any trouble. If you prefer wall-mounting, that’s simple too. You just have to remove two screws from the back to access the 300 x 300 VESA holes for mounting.

Now, let me talk about the remote. The design is nice, and it feels good to hold. It’s sleek and comfortable. But there’s one small thing that bothered me — the Home button is placed off to the side, while the Google Assistant button is right in the center. I kept pressing the Assistant button by mistake when I actually wanted to go to the Home screen. It’s not a big deal, though, because overall, I liked the remote. It’s easy to use, and the design is pretty good.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Ports Review

The TCL QM6K doesn’t skimp on ports. It comes with two HDMI 2.1 ports that support a 144Hz refresh rate, perfect for smooth gaming and fast-moving content. There are also two HDMI 2.0 ports, but they only support up to a 60Hz refresh rate.

TCL makes it easy by clearly labeling each port, including which HDMI 2.0 port doubles as an eARC port for audio.

Other ports include a USB 3.0, a USB 2.0, an Ethernet port, a digital optical audio output, and a cable/antenna input. So, while not all HDMI ports are 2.1, the TV has pretty much everything you’d need.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Performance and Picture Quality Review

The TCL QM6K performs really well, especially for the price. It’s brighter than many TVs in this range, making it a good choice for bright rooms.

Here’s a quick look at the test results:

  • SDR Brightness: 688 nits — brighter than most budget TVs
  • HDR Brightness: 695 nits
  • Color Accuracy (Delta-E): 1.0 — colors look natural and accurate
  • Input Lag: 13.1ms — not the best for fast-paced gaming but fine for regular use

The input lag is slightly higher compared to some other models, so if you’re into serious gaming, you might notice a small delay. But for movies and shows, it’s not a big issue. I’ve seen similar results with other TCL TVs too.

The overall picture quality is impressive. My room gets a lot of sunlight during the day, but the brightness was enough for me to enjoy everything — from nature documentaries to action-packed movies like John Wick: Chapter 4.

The TV supports all the major HDR formats — HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision — which really helps improve the visuals. Watching Avatar: The Way of Water in Dolby Vision was a great experience, with rich colors and sharp details.

Filmmaker Mode is one of my favorite features. I tested it while watching Interstellar, and the picture looked stunning — realistic colors and deep contrast. Sadly, this mode doesn’t work with every show or movie. When it’s not available, I switched to Movie Mode, which also delivered good results.

For example, when I watched live football on YouTube, the colors looked natural in Movie Mode. In other picture modes, the field looked way too bright and unnatural.

If you select the right picture settings, the TCL QM6K gives you clear, colorful, and bright images — perfect for movies, shows, or sports. It’s a solid choice if you want great picture quality without spending too much.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Audio Performance Review

When it comes to sound, many reviews mention that the TCL QM6K doesn’t perform well — but honestly, I didn’t find it that bad.

Like most TVs, the built-in speakers aren’t amazing, and if you really care about sound, you’ll want to get a good soundbar. But the TCL QM6K comes with a 40W Onkyo 2.1 speaker system (2 x 10W and 1 x 20W), which is actually better than what you get on most budget TVs.

The sound felt clear and full most of the time, but yes — the bass was a little weak, and sometimes the dialogue sounded a bit tinny. Still, I could hear everything clearly without any major issues.

Right now, I’ve connected it to a Sonos Arc soundbar, which definitely makes a huge difference. But honestly, if I had kept the TV in my smaller office, the built-in speakers would have been fine for everyday use.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Gaming Performance Review

I don’t play games for hours like I used to, but honestly, I wish I had this TV back when I spent long nights playing Destiny 2.

The TCL QM6K is packed with gaming features that make it great for gamers. It supports a native 144Hz refresh rate through its two HDMI 2.1 ports, which is perfect for smooth gameplay.

On top of that, it has Game Accelerator 240, which boosts the refresh rate up to 240Hz in 1080p. This feature was only in higher-end TCL models before, so it’s nice to see it in this affordable TV.

The TV also has Auto Game Mode (also known as ALLM), which automatically reduces lag when you start gaming. Plus, with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, your games run super smooth without screen tearing.

The only downside is the input lag. At 13.1ms, it’s a bit slower compared to some other brands. Still, unless you’re a hardcore competitive gamer, you probably won’t notice it much.

TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV Smart Features Review

One thing I really like about the TCL QM6K is that it runs on Google TV. Honestly, I’m not a fan of Samsung’s Tizen or LG’s webOS — they just feel a bit complicated.

With Google TV, everything is simple and easy to find. It has all the popular apps like Netflix, Max, and Apple TV. Basically, if it’s one of the top streaming services, you’ll find it here.

Roku and Fire TV might have a few extra apps, but for most people, Google TV has everything you need to enjoy your favorite shows and movies.

Pros and Cons of TCL QM6K Mini-LED TV

ProsCons
🔥 Loaded with features🔈 Sound quality is average
🌈 Excellent picture quality🌞 Glare reduction could be better
💻 Sleek and slim design🎮 Input lag is a bit high for gaming
🎮 Good for gaming (144Hz, VRR, FreeSync)📡 No HDMI 2.1 on all ports
🌟 Supports Dolby Vision & HDR formats🎤 Remote button layout could be better
📺 Bright screen, good in daylight📦 Built-in speakers lack bass
📱 Google TV with voice control
💰 Great value for the price

Conclusion

The TCL QM6K is a great TV for the price. The only small issue is that it’s very close to the TCL QM7, which is a bit brighter.

But the QM6K has better colors, so movies and shows look really good. Both TVs are good choices.

It works well, but like most TVs at this price, the sound is just okay and there can be glare in bright rooms.

Still, if I didn’t own it already, I would buy this TV. It gives great picture quality, good features, and is affordable.

It’s not better than an OLED, but for the price, it’s really good.
