Viwoods AI Paper – My Experience and Performance Review

I tested the Viwoods AI Paper with three other top e-ink tablets for an upcoming comparison. All these tablets focus on giving a paper-like writing feel, helping with study, work, and staying organized. Even though Viwoods is a new brand, their AI Paper really surprised me with how good it is.

Best E-Ink Display So Far

The Viwoods AI Paper uses the Carta 1300 display, and this is the best version I’ve seen. Other tablets like the Boox Max have darker screens where white looks gray, making reading harder. But the AI Paper has much better contrast and clarity. The whites actually look white, which makes reading comfortable.

Writing Experience – Almost Like Paper

Writing on the AI Paper feels nice. It’s not exactly like real paper, but the screen has a light texture that gives a soft scratchy feel. It feels much better than writing on smooth glass screens of other tablets. Also, the screen is made of a soft surface instead of hard glass, making it feel more natural.

This was my first time using an e-ink tablet, so I had to adjust from regular paper. Luckily, it didn’t take long. The tablet has smart tools like lasso erase, which make it easier to use.

Sketching is Impressive

Sketching on the AI Paper is also very good. It offers different tools, but I loved the pencil the most. You can tilt it for shading and adjust pressure for light or dark strokes. These small details make a big difference when sketching. You can fine-tune the pressure settings too, which helps create detailed drawings.

Stylus – Good But Could Be Better

The stylus is simple and feels like a regular pencil. It’s slim, plastic, and has a flat side to grip easily. There’s a button for erasing, and you can also flip it over to erase like a real pencil. While it’s not very premium, it works well. I liked how the nib has a spring-like resistance, giving a feel of writing on paper.

Helps Me Stay Organized Daily

I realized the AI Paper works best when used daily. I started carrying it instead of a notebook and used its keyword system to stay organized. I now keep a daily planner and to-do list on it, which has helped me stay on track with my tasks. As someone with ADHD, this has been a big help for my productivity.

Android Features and Typing

Since the AI Paper runs on Android, you can download apps and use devices like Bluetooth keyboards. I connected my mechanical keyboard and wrote in Google Docs without any issues. It felt like using a modern typewriter with the benefits of e-ink.

Ghosting Issue – Manageable

One issue I noticed was screen ghosting. This happens when previous images slightly stay visible after changing screens. While not permanent, it can be distracting. Luckily, you can easily refresh the screen by swiping down from the top left corner. You can also adjust refresh speed, but faster modes reduce image quality. I prefer swiping to clear the screen when needed.
