Price and Availability
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P was released on February 18, 2025, and is now available for purchase. There are two versions:
- Osmo Mobile 7P – $149 / £135 / AU$219
- Osmo Mobile 7 – $89 / £85 / AU$159
The 7P version has a special Multifunction Module, which adds extra features. If you buy the standard Osmo Mobile 7, you can upgrade later by purchasing this module separately. Compared to Insta360 Flow 2 Pro, Osmo Mobile 7P is slightly cheaper but offers better tracking. It is also more affordable than the Osmo Mobile 6 when it was first launched.
Design and Ease of Use
First thing I noticed about the Osmo Mobile 7P is its compact and foldable design. It easily fits in a small bag or a coat pocket, though it is a bit big for jeans pockets. The setup is very quick. I can unfold it, attach my phone, and balance it in just a few seconds because of the magnetic clamp and auto-balancing feature.
Grip is comfortable due to its rough surface and ergonomic shape. My hand never felt tired, even after recording for long periods of time. For vloggers who devote a lot of time to recording, this is a huge advantage.
Stabilization and Tracking
Osmo Mobile 7P has a three-axis gimbal which provides smooth and stable footage. I tested it while walking, running, and even going up and down stairs. The videos always looked steady and professional. The 215mm extension rod also helped me capture shots from different angles.
There are four main stabilization modes:
- Pan Follow Mode – Keeps tilt and roll locked but follows horizontal movements.
- Pan Tilt Follow Mode – Follows both horizontal and vertical movements.
- FPV Mode – Follows all three axes for more dynamic shots.
- SpinShot Mode – Allows full rotation for cinematic effects.
The biggest highlight is ActiveTrack 7.0, which is much better than previous versions. It allows:
- Group tracking (follows multiple people at once)
- Fast subject reacquisition (if tracking is lost, it quickly finds the subject again)
- Better tracking while zooming
I tested it by walking around my room and even letting someone block the camera’s view. In just a few seconds, the gimbal found me again and continued tracking smoothly.
The Multifunction Module makes a huge difference. Unlike older models, Osmo Mobile 7P can now track subjects using any camera app, not just DJI’s Mimo app. I used tracking on Instagram, TikTok, and Zoom, and it worked perfectly. The built-in LED light with adjustable brightness and color was also a great feature for low-light shooting.
Controls and Features
Using the Osmo Mobile 7P was very easy. The gimbal has several buttons and controls:
- Joystick – Moves the gimbal manually
- Zoom Wheel – Smooth zooming and focus pulling
- Trigger Button – Locks the gimbal angle or resets it with a double tap
- Switch Button – Changes between front/rear cameras and landscape/portrait modes
One of my favorite features is gesture control. With Multifunction Module, I could start/stop tracking, recording and adjust framing using hand gestures. This was especially helpful when I was filming alone.
Battery Life and Performance
DJI claims Osmo Mobile 7P has up to 10 hours of battery life. However, in real-world use, I got around 5-6 hours when using tracking and the LED light. This is still good, but if you record for long hours, you might need a power bank.
Tiny tripod is a small issue. Although it performs well indoors, it can become shaky outdoors, particularly in windy conditions. A more robust tripod is preferable if you intend to use the gimbal outside.

What I Liked & What Could Be Improved
✅ Pros | ❌ Cons |
---|---|
🔍 Great tracking – Works with any camera app | 🔄 No full 360º rotation |
🎥 Smooth and stable videos | 📌 Built-in tripod is weak outdoors |
🎒 Compact and easy to carry | 🔋 Battery drains faster with tracking & LED |
💡 Useful extras – LED light, wireless mic support | ⚖️ Not for very heavy phones (300g+) |
✋ Gesture controls make filming easier | ⚙️ Lacks some advanced settings |
💰 Good price for the features | 📱 May not work well with bulky phone cases |
Should You Buy DJI Osmo Mobile 7P?
Get it if…
✔ You want the best tracking features in a compact gimbal
✔ You use TikTok, Instagram, or Zoom and need app-wide tracking
✔ You own a DJI Mic Mini and want seamless audio integration
Avoid it if…
✖ You need a gimbal with infinite panning and pro-level settings
✖ Your phone is heavier than 300g, as it may not be supported
Conclusion
After using the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P I can confidently say it is best compact smartphone gimbal for most people. It keeps the best features of the Osmo Mobile 6 while making big improvements in tracking and usability. The ability to use tracking with any app is a huge advantage, and the design is comfortable and easy to use.
Of course, it is not perfect. Lack of full 360º rotation and slightly unstable tripod could be improved. Positives far outweigh the negatives. Whether you are a beginner or experienced content creator, Osmo Mobile 7P is a great investment for smooth, professional-looking smartphone videos.
