Motorola Edge 50 Design and Build Quality

Motorola Edge 50 features a sleek and durable design with a signature look from Edge 50 lineup. It has a thin profile with slightly curved panels and a vegan leather back. The device is IP68-certified for water and dust resistance and complies with MIL-STD-810H military-grade standards, meaning it can withstand extreme temperatures, physical shocks, rain, humidity and dust. The aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass 5 front panel add to its durability, while the vegan leather back comes in three color options: Jungle Green, Koala Gray and Peach Fuzz. The Koala Gray version has a silky smooth Vegan Suede finish, offering a different texture compared to the typical grainy leather.

Motorola Edge 50 Display

Motorola Edge 50 sports 6.7-inch P-OLED display with a resolution of 1220 x 2712 pixels, delivering sharp 446ppi. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Screen also offers a peak brightness of 1600 nits, ensuring good visibility even in bright conditions. While it’s HDR10+ certified, it’s recognized only by certain apps like YouTube, but not Netflix.

Motorola Edge 50 Battery Life and Charging

Powered by a 5000mAh battery, Motorola Edge 50 offers decent battery life, with an active use score of 9 hours and 56 minutes. The phone performs well in video streaming tests (12 hours 18 minutes), but is more average in calls, web browsing and gaming. It supports fast 68W wired charging, which can charge the device to 77% in just 30 minutes and up to 15W wireless charging. The phone also has options to optimize charging speeds to extend battery lifespan.

Motorola Edge 50 Speakers

Motorola Edge 50 features hybrid stereo speakers, with the earpiece doubling as one of the speakers. While the top speaker focuses more on vocals and is quieter, the overall balance of sound is good, offering rich vocals and high-frequency clarity. The bass is weaker, but it still performs well in terms of loudness, scoring a “Very Good” rating on loudness tests.

Motorola Edge 50 Camera

Motorola Edge 50 features a reliable triple-camera setup, similar to the cheaper Edge 50 Neo, with a 50MP main camera, 13MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto lens. The front camera is 32MP. While the cameras generally provide good performance with solid dynamic range, details and natural colors, the camera app can be a bit laggy and slow in some modes, especially switching between cameras.

Daylight Photos:

  • Main camera delivers clear, detailed photos with vibrant but natural colors.
  • Portrait mode and 2x zoom are solid but 2x zoom lacks fine detail.
  • 3x telephoto camera performs well in terms of color and detail though portraits can be a bit soft.

Low-light Photos:

  • Main camera performs well in low light, producing sharp images with good dynamic range.
  • 2x zoom in low light is noisy and soft while 3x telephoto works surprisingly well, maintaining clarity and natural shadows.
  • Ultrawide camera struggles in low light, showing soft images with noise.

Video:

  • Edge 50 supports 4K recording at 30fps with all cameras and features Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS).
  • Horizon Lock stabilization which uses ultrawide camera, keeps horizon steady even when turning phone.
  • Video quality is generally good with bright colors but ultrawide and telephoto videos can be softer and have narrower dynamic range.

Camera setup is dependable, though not perfect with room for improvement in areas like zoom quality and sharpness in video.
