Design and Build of nubia Z70 Ultra

Nubia Z70 Ultra keeps the classic style of its predecessor, the Z60 Ultra, but adds a bold new “Starry Night” color option that really stands out. It has a sleek, boxy design with minimal bezels and no punch-hole cutout, thanks to its improved under-display selfie camera, creating a clean and premium look.

Camera layout has been refreshed too. The main 35mm lens, now with variable aperture, sits at the top left of the massive camera island. Telephoto lens has slimmed down and moved to the left, while the ultrawide lens takes the center position without flashy details.

Phone is built to last, with toughened glass on the back and second-gen Longxi Glass on the display for better drop and scratch resistance. Its IP68/IP69 rating means it can handle water including underwater camera use, with controls designed for such conditions.

Other handy features include:

  • Dedicated camera button for quick snaps.
  • A slider switch for toggling silent mode, flashlight or Game Space.
  • An IR emitter for controlling appliances (requires a separate app).

With its durable build, stylish design and smart camera layout, nubia Z70 Ultra is as practical as it is beautiful.

Display, Battery life, Charging speed, Speakers of nubia Z70 Ultra

Nubia Z70 Ultra has 6.85-inch OLED screen with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, making it great for gaming and scrolling. Its resolution (2688×1216 pixels) ensures sharp visuals, and the under-display selfie camera means no punch-hole offering a clear and uninterrupted view. Screen is bright, reaching up to 1,400 nits outdoors and works well in most lighting conditions.

Phone has a 6,150mAh battery, lasting over 11 hours for browsing, 16 hours for videos and 9 hours of gaming. It supports 80W fast charging, filling up in just 42 minutes. There’s also a feature to avoid overheating during gaming by running on power directly instead of charging battery. However, it doesn’t support wireless charging.

Stereo speakers provide clear, loud sound with good bass. Sound adjusts based on how you hold phone, making it great for videos and games.

Z70 Ultra offers smooth performance, long battery life & excellent audio for a top-notch entertainment experience.

Software, Performance of nubia Z70 Ultra

Nubia Z70 Ultra runs on a new system called Nebula AIOS, which replaces the old MyOS. It’s based on Android 15, but the changes are small. Main new feature is AI Translate, which translates calls in real time with subtitles in many languages.

Quick toggles for things like Bluetooth and mobile data are still there and Game Space lets you track performance while gaming.

In terms of performance, phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, making it fast in benchmarks like GeekBench and AnTuTu. However, the Adreno 830 GPU is a bit behind some competitors.

During stress tests, phone got hot and its CPU performance dropped a bit but it still did well in gaming tests with good stability.

Camera, photo and video quality of nubia Z70 Ultra

Nubia Z70 Ultra features 35mm lens on its main camera with adjustable aperture from f/1.6 to f/4.0. However, zoom interface is a bit confusing, with the need to tap multiple times to switch between different focal lengths.

Telephoto camera has 70mm equivalent lens, providing better close-up focus but with slightly less zoom. Ultrawide camera now offers a 13mm lens but it sacrifices some sensor size for the wider view. It’s still not perfect, though.

Under-display camera is improved with AI, and there’s a physical shutter button on the right side of phone which can also launch the camera. There’s also an underwater mode for easy camera control.

For photos in daylight, main camera performs well, though not exceptional and colors are good. 50MP mode doesn’t add much to the detail. Telephoto lens can focus close up, making it great for detailed shots.

Ultrawide camera, while improved to 13mm, still struggles with sharpness and contrast.

Pros and Cons of nubia Z70 Ultra

ProsCons
🌊 Water-resistant (IP68/IP69)🔋 Shorter battery life compared to competitors
🌟 Cool design, especially Starry Night📱 Display has some limitations (HDR, streaming)
📱 Big OLED screen with 144Hz refresh rate📸 Camera interface is confusing, zoom issues
🔲 Physical controls (slider, camera button)🎥 Video quality is inconsistent
🎮 Great for gaming🤳 Selfies aren’t great
📷 Good camera system with 35mm main lens🚫 No eSIM support

Conclusion

Nubia Z70 Ultra is unique cameraphone with some improvements like better close-up shots with its telephoto camera. However, it’s held back by a tricky interface and some processing issues.

Its notchless display looks good but makes selfies less sharp, though this is a trade-off we’re okay with.

There are a few other downsides like decent but not great battery life, no eSIM support and missing some display features.

On the bright side, it’s good for gaming, has IP68/IP69 rating for water resistance, and has a cool design.

Overall, Z70 Ultra has potential, but its camera doesn’t fully deliver, so think carefully before buying.
