Realme GT5 Pro Review: Specs, Features, and Verdict

Realme GT5 Pro features a powerful display, fast charging, great battery life & impressive cameras, but ultrawide & video fall short.

Realme GT5 Pro is a powerful smartphone, but it is mainly sold in China. We got our hands on one to see what it offers. It has a fast processor, bright display, and great cameras. However, it’s disappointing that it won’t be available worldwide.

The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the top chip for 2024. The base model has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, but you can go up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. This makes it great for gaming and multitasking.

The triple-camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens with 2.7x zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide camera. While the ultrawide camera is basic, the main and zoom cameras are high-end, offering sharp and detailed photos.

The 6.78-inch AMOLED display is bright and smooth, with a 144Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support. Realme claims it can reach 4,500 nits of brightness, making it one of the brightest displays available.

Battery life is also strong, with a 5,400mAh battery. It supports 100W fast charging, which can charge 50% in 12 minutes, and 50W wireless charging. The IP64 rating protects against dust and water splashes.

Other features include an infrared sensor and a heart rate monitor in the fingerprint scanner. Overall, the Realme GT5 Pro is a fantastic phone with top-tier performance, cameras, and battery life. It’s a pity it won’t be sold globally!

Realme GT5 Pro Design, build quality and handling

The Realme GT5 Pro is the first Realme phone with an IP64 rating, offering better dust and water protection than previous models. While it’s not fully waterproof, it can handle splashes and dust better than most Realme phones.

The phone comes in three colors: Orange (Red Rock), White (Bright Moon), and Black (Starry Night). The orange and white versions have a soft vegan leather back, which feels nice and resists fingerprints. The black version has a sparkly glass finish that shines under bright light.

The camera bump is large, housing four circles, but only three are real cameras—the extra circle is just for design. The flash is placed within the camera ring, making it look more compact.

The 6.78-inch OLED display is slightly curved and has very thin bezels—the side bezels are just 1.36mm, the thinnest in the industry. The chin is also slim, making the screen look nearly bezel-less.

The fingerprint reader is under the display, but it’s placed a bit low and may cause occasional misreads. It also has a heart rate monitor, but it’s not meant for medical use.

The aluminum frame makes the phone feel thin and premium. The power and volume buttons are on the right and feel nice to press. The top side has a speaker, mic, and infrared emitter, while the bottom has a USB-C port, SIM tray, mic, and another speaker.

The GT5 Pro is a large phone, measuring 161.7×75.1×9.2mm and weighing 218g (a bit more for the glass version). Despite its size, the curved edges, thin bezels, and grippy back make it comfortable to hold.

Realme GT5 Pro Display, battery life, charging speed and speaker

Realme GT5 Pro features a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display with a sharp 1264×2780 resolution, a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision support. It boasts an impressive peak brightness of 4500 nits (for small areas) and 1600 nits for full-screen white. In standard testing, it reached 1660 nits with adaptive brightness and nearly 1000 nits in manual mode.

For refresh rates, it can drop as low as 0.5Hz and reach 144Hz when needed. It adjusts dynamically, but forcing a constant high refresh rate isn’t always reliable. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are supported for streaming, but Netflix playback is limited to 480p due to an L3 Widevine certification.

The 5400mAh battery delivers solid endurance, with strong performance in active use. Charging is fast with a 100W SuperVOOC adapter, reaching 50% in 12 minutes and a full charge in 28 minutes. It also supports 50W wireless charging.

The stereo speakers provide good loudness and balanced sound, with clear vocals and decent bass.

Realme GT5 Pro Software, performance

Realme GT5 Pro runs Android 14 with Realme UI 5.0, which is essentially Oppo’s ColorOS 14. It comes with several customization options, including wallpapers, icon packs, fonts, and dark mode settings. The phone has a clean interface with an optional app drawer and features like a smart sidebar, split-screen, and flexible windows.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the GT5 Pro delivers strong performance, though benchmark scores are slightly lower than some competitors. It includes a new gesture-based control system using the front camera, but its practical use is limited. The phone also features an advanced cooling system, but its impact on sustained performance is minimal.

Despite being a Chinese version, Google Play Services are available, and the phone can be made functional for global users with some tweaks. However, some features like Netflix Full HD playback and HDR support may be missing.

Realme GT5 Pro Camera

Realme GT5 Pro boasts a strong camera configuration. Its 50MP primary camera takes crisp, vibrant pictures even in low light. 50MP telephoto lens produces sharp zoomed-in images with its 3x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom. While decent, 8MP ultrawide camera lacks sharpness.

The 32MP front camera takes detailed selfies, great for social media. Portraits look best at 3x zoom with good background blur, while 1x and 2x may soften details or distort faces.

For close-ups, the phone doesn’t use an ultrawide macro camera. Instead, the telephoto lens at 3x gives the best results, while the main camera can be blurry at 1x.

Realme GT5 Pro Video Performance

The GT5 Pro records up to 8K at 24fps on the main camera. Both the main and telephoto cameras support 4K at 30fps and 60fps, while the ultrawide is limited to 1080p at 30fps. The selfie camera can record in 4K at 30fps.

4K video has good colors and contrast but isn’t very sharp. The 60fps mode is sharper but darker. 8K video doesn’t improve details much.

The telephoto camera has good colors but lacks sharpness. The ultrawide camera is the weakest, producing soft footage.

Stabilization isn’t great—walking shots are shaky, especially on the main and ultrawide cameras. The telephoto is better but works best when still.

In low light, videos are soft. The main camera is decent, the telephoto is above average, and the ultrawide is poor.

Pros and Cons of Realme GT5 Pro

ProsCons
🌊 IP64-rated (resistant to dust and splashes)🚫 Not fully waterproof (no submersion protection)
🔆 Super-bright, high-quality display📷 Weak ultrawide camera (lacks detail and quality)
🔋 Long battery life, fast wired & wireless charging🎥 Video quality could be sharper, shaky stabilization
Palm recognition & air gestures🚫
🔭 Excellent main and telephoto cameras🚫

Conclusion

Realme GT5 Pro might not be available globally but it showcases what’s next for Realme and its sister brands. It has a stunning display, excellent battery life, and fast charging. Features like palm recognition and air gestures are nice extras, and the IP64 rating adds some protection.

However, the ultrawide camera and video recording could be better. On the bright side, the main and telephoto cameras take great photos, and the zoom lens’ close-up capability is impressive.

While this model may stay in China, we look forward to an improved version in the future.
