The Galaxy S25 hasn’t launched yet, but it’s expected to be the favorite, with three models: the standard S25, the Plus and the Ultra. These new phones will likely offer improved hardware, with a major focus on Galaxy AI features.

OnePlus has evolved from an upstart to a strong competitor, offering premium hardware and long battery life, just like Samsung. The OnePlus 13 also brings better camera performance, though its AI features aren’t as advanced as Galaxy AI.

In this comparison, we’ll focus on how the Galaxy S25’s base model stacks up against the OnePlus 13, while also touching on the Plus and Ultra models where needed. We’ll compare the rumored features of the S25 with the actual features of the OnePlus 13.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs OnePlus 13: Price and Availability

Samsung hasn’t confirmed the Galaxy S25’s price yet, but we should know more at the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22. It may keep the S24’s $799 starting price, though rumors suggest a possible increase.

OnePlus 13 is already available for $899, a $100 increase from the OnePlus 12. This is the second year in a row that OnePlus has raised prices. Given its size, it compares more closely to the Galaxy S25 Plus, which starts at $999.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs OnePlus 13 Design and Display

Both phones keep a similar design to their predecessors. The Galaxy S25 has an armor aluminum frame (with titanium reserved for the Ultra model) and vertically aligned rear cameras. The OnePlus 13 features a circular camera module, flatter sides, and a Ceramic Guard screen for added durability. It also has IP68/69 water resistance for better protection.

Samsung may slightly increase the S25’s screen size from 6.2 inches to 6.36 inches, while the OnePlus 13 retains its larger 6.82-inch display.

Both phones maintain the same level of display brightness. The OnePlus 13 claims to have an OLED panel with 4,500 nits, however actual testing reveals a peak of 1,104 nits. The Galaxy S25 has an OLED panel with 2,600 nits. A new RadiantView feature on the OnePlus 13 improves visibility in the daylight.

Samsung usually offers more color choices. Galaxy S25 is expected in two blues, silver, and green, plus some exclusive colors. The OnePlus 13 comes in black, blue and white.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs OnePlus 13 Cameras

With its relationship with Hasselblad, OnePlus is catching up to Samsung, which has historically led in camera quality. The Hasselblad Master Imaging algorithm which is also used by the Oppo Find X8, is used by the OnePlus 13 to improve camera performance.

The OnePlus 13 features a triple 50MP rear camera setup, including a main, ultrawide, and telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. In tests, it performed well in telephoto and low-light shots. When compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung’s phone won, but the difference was small—a first for a OnePlus vs Samsung camera battle.

Samsung may not make major camera upgrades for the Galaxy S25, with bigger improvements reserved for the Ultra model. The S25 and S25 Plus are rumored to get larger sensors to capture more light but that might not be enough to stay ahead of OnePlus’ improved camera system.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs OnePlus 13 Performance

Both the Galaxy S25 and OnePlus 13 are expected to feature Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with the OnePlus 13 already confirmed to have it. Benchmark tests show the OnePlus 13 outperforms the Galaxy S24, which uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, in most tests.

Here’s a comparison between the OnePlus 13 and Galaxy S24:

  • Geekbench 6 score: OnePlus 13: 2,893/9,058 vs Galaxy S24: 2,235/6,922
  • 3DMark Wild Life Extreme: OnePlus 13: 5,727/34.29 fps vs Galaxy S24: 5,009/30 fps
  • Adobe Premiere Rush: OnePlus 13: 1:01 vs Galaxy S24: 0:42

The Galaxy S25 will likely use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and Samsung could also offer an optimized version, as it has with previous Qualcomm chips.

The Galaxy S25 will probably have 12GB of RAM, while the S25 Ultra may have 16GB. The OnePlus 13’s RAM is 12GB.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs OnePlus 13 Battery Life & Charging

Both phones benefit from the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s improved power efficiency, promising better battery life. The OnePlus 13, however, already delivers exceptional results, lasting 19 hours and 45 minutes—one of the best times recorded. This is helped by its 6,000 mAh battery.

Samsung’s battery details are less clear, but the Galaxy S25 is expected to have a 4,000 mAh battery, like the S24, which lasted just under 13.5 hours. Like S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra is probably going to retain its 5,000 mAh battery.

Charging Speeds:

  • OnePlus 13: 100W wired charging (80W in the U.S.), reaching 92% in 30 minutes
  • Galaxy S25: Expected to stay at 25W wired charging, but may introduce faster Qi2 wireless charging

OnePlus 13 offers longer battery life and much faster charging.

Samsung Galaxy S25 vs OnePlus 13 AI & Software

AI is a key focus for the Galaxy S25, with Samsung upgrading Bixby to be more context-aware. This could let Bixby suggest actions, like providing directions for an address you’re looking at online.

The OnePlus 13 also adds more AI features, such as translation, transcription, text generation, image editing and Intelligent Search for finding files. It also includes BeaconLink, a Bluetooth-based walkie-talkie tool, though with limited range.

Software Updates:

  • Galaxy S25: Likely 7 years of updates (same as S24)
  • OnePlus 13: 4 years of Android updates + 2 extra years of support

Samsung offers longer software support, while OnePlus focuses on AI-powered features and unique tools.

Conclusion

It’s disappointing to see Samsung losing its edge after dominating Android for so long. Although we’re comparing the base Galaxy S25 to the top-end OnePlus 13, their similar pricing makes this comparison fair. Even if we compared it to the Galaxy S25 Plus, I’d still feel the same way.

OnePlus 13 is the clear winner here. It offers a stunning display, great design, fast performance & exceptional battery life. OnePlus has also significantly improved OxygenOS and increased software support. It’s not perfect but it’s one of the most exciting devices in a while.

While the Samsung Galaxy S25 will still sell well and satisfy many, I feel Samsung has become complacent. The S25 is ideal for those who prefer a smaller phone, but it only matches the OnePlus 13 in a few areas and falls behind in others.
