Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Design and Build Quality

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ looks great and feels nice to hold. It has a curved front and back with a thin, shiny frame. Screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and green model has a soft vegan leather back.

You can also get it in black, orange and blue, which have matte plastic backs. Phone is IP53-rated, so itโ€™s safe from dust and splashes.

6.78-inch AMOLED screen takes up most of front. It has thin edges and a small hole for camera. It features fun animations similar to Appleโ€™s Dynamic Island. There are no visible sensors at top and it doesnโ€™t have a notification light.

For security, it has a fast fingerprint sensor under screen.

Back is nice to touch, featuring a large camera area with a 108 MP main camera, a 2 MP macro camera and an extra lens. Thereโ€™s also a 4-LED flash.

Some people might find big camera area too much and a simpler design could have been better.

Thin frame makes it slippery, especially when lying flat but textured back helps you grip it. Included case can improve grip but may cover its sleek look.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Display

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ has 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,436 pixels. It shows 1 billion colors and has 120Hz refresh rate which makes everything smooth. It can get as bright as 1,000 nits, although in our test, we measured a maximum brightness of 549 nits. Screen also supports a wide range of colors.

You can choose between three screen settings: 60Hz, 120Hz or Auto. Auto mode lowers refresh rate to 60Hz when phone is idle or when using apps that donโ€™t support higher refresh rates.

Unfortunately, it does not support HDR for streaming but you can watch videos in 1080p quality.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Battery Life

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ comes with 5,000mAh battery. In our test, phone lasted around 11 hours and 56 minutes with a mix of browsing, video streaming and gaming. While battery life is good, heavy gaming drains it faster than some other phones.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Charging Speed

Phone supports 33W fast charging and comes with a charger in box. In our test, it charged 30% in 15 minutes, 54% in 30 minutes and took 72 minutes for a full charge. Itโ€™s important to use original charger for best results.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Connectivity

Phone only supports 4G LTE, not 5G. It also has dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC and FM radio. However, it does not have a headphone jack or IR blaster. USB Type-C port supports regular data transfer and charging but doesnโ€™t support video output.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ HiOS 13 on Top of Android 14

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ doesn’t come with Tecno’s latest HiOS 14 as seen in other models like Pova 6 Pro. Instead, it runs on HiOS 13.6.0, although HiOS 14 is expected soon based on Tecno’s official website. On the bright side, phone still operates on Android 14 but with an older security patch from December 1, 2023.

Despite not being on latest HiOS version, Spark 20 Pro+ features some advanced functionalities. These include a customizable Always On Display, enhanced Game Mode and Lightning Multi-Window for multitasking. One of standout features is “Dynamic Port,” which functions similarly to iPhone’s Dynamic Island by showing interactive pop-ups around front camera.

Tecno has also integrated AI-powered optimizations, such as “Aurora Engine” for faster app launches and “Darwin Engine” for improved frame rate and temperature management, enhancing overall user experience.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Camera

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ has two back cameras: a 108MP main camera and a 2MP macro camera. It does not have an ultrawide lens but main camera takes great everyday photos.

Camera Features:

  • Main Camera: 108MP for clear photos.
  • Macro Camera: 2MP for close-up shots.
  • Selfie Camera: 32MP for good selfies.

Daytime Photos: Main camera usually takes 12MP photos, which look clear and colorful. You can switch to 108MP mode for even sharper images but they may have a little noise.

Zoom: Thereโ€™s no special zoom lens but you can zoom in up to 3x with main camera and pictures still look clear.

Portraits and Closeups: Portrait mode works well but it sometimes has trouble separating subject. Macro camera takes nice close-up shots, even though it’s only 2MP.

Selfies: Selfie camera takes clear photos but skin tones can sometimes look a bit off.

Low-Light Photos: In low light, main camera still takes decent pictures. There is no special night mode but it reduces noise and keeps colors looking natural.

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ Pros and Cons

๐Ÿ’ช Good performance for the priceโ“ No promise on software updates
๐Ÿ“ท Solid main camera quality๐Ÿ”ด
๐ŸŽ Comes with many accessories๐Ÿ”ด

Conclusion

Tecno Spark 20 Pro+ is a great budget phone with a lot to offer for its price. It has a stylish look, especially with faux leather back and green version feels premium. Curved AMOLED screen with thin edges makes it look more expensive and it even has some water protection (IP53) and Gorilla Glass 5.

120Hz screen is smooth, though we noticed a small issue with brightness which likely wonโ€™t be a problem in regular units.

Battery life is good and it charges quickly. Stereo speakers sound fine and it includes handy features like FM radio, NFC and extra storage space. With 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, it performs well for price, powered by Helio G99 chip. Camera takes good pictures, though it doesnโ€™t have an ultrawide lens.

Only downside is thereโ€™s no promise for software updates, which might affect how long you can use phone. Overall, itโ€™s a great value and easy to recommend.
