🖌️ Design

Vivo V40 Pro has a design that is very similar to its predecessor. It measures 164.2 x 74.9 x 7.6mm and weighs 192g making it just slightly thicker (by about 0.1mm) and heavier (by around 4g) than previous model. While these differences are minimal, they do make phone feel a bit more solid and substantial in your hand.

Phone features glossy glass back with plastic frame. Although back is made of glass, it has a high-gloss finish that can make it look a bit like plastic. However, phone does come with an anti-fingerprint coating, which helps keep it looking clean and smudge-free.

Vivo offers V40 Pro in three colors: Meteor Blue, Stellar Silver and Moonlight White. White model, in particular, has marble-like pattern on back which adds a subtle dark blue hue and matches Vivo logo. Meteor Blue variant has a similar design with a different color scheme while Stellar Silver version has a slight sparkle without marble pattern.

Camera array on back of V40 Pro has also been redesigned. It now has two lenses in a large circular section, with a third lens placed separately along with Aura Light. This new design makes camera bump slightly chunkier than before, so expect a bit of wobble when you place phone face up on a table.

Phone’s frame is made of plastic, which is a clear sign that this isn’t a flagship model. However, Vivo has reinforced frame and added cushioning to make it more durable and resistant to drops and impacts. Phone also comes with a transparent TPU case and a factory-applied plastic screen protector to help keep it protected from scratches and scuffs.

📱Screen

Vivo V40 Pro has a 6.78-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels. This is similar to previous model but V40 Pro’s screen can reach a peak brightness of 4500 nits, which is a big improvement over 2800 nits of its predecessor. This makes screen much easier to see in bright sunlight and makes HDR content look fantastic, with very bright highlights and detailed shadows.

Screen has a substantial curve at edges, just like previous model. While this curved design gives phone a slimmer feel and a more modern look, it also causes some reflections and color shifts when viewed from certain angles. Despite these issues, colors on screen are quite accurate by default, and you can customize them through settings if you prefer a different look.

📷 Cameras

Vivo V40 Pro comes with a powerful quad-camera system, featuring four 50MP cameras. This includes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, a 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus, and a 50MP wide-angle selfie camera with autofocus.

Camera system is similar to one on previous V30 Pro model, but main camera has been upgraded to a newer sensor, Sony IMX921. This upgrade results in sharp, detailed images with lifelike colors, especially in low-light conditions. 2x telephoto camera is also impressive, providing good results even when digitally zoomed up to 5x. Ultrawide camera is not as detailed as other lenses, but it still performs better than lower-resolution ultrawide cameras found on many other phones.

50MP selfie camera is one of the best on market, with a wide field of view and autofocus that ensures sharp selfies, whether you’re close to or far from camera. It’s great for group photos and capturing your surroundings, and if you prefer a more traditional field of view, you can digitally zoom in without losing much quality.

Vivo V40 Pro also offers excellent portrait mode effects, with plenty of filters and bokeh styles to choose from. Subject cutouts are reliable and Zeiss-approved bokeh effects give your portraits a professional look. For video, phone can record in 4K at 60fps, although stabilization is better at 4K at 30fps. You can also enable an ultra-steady mode for smoother video, but this only works at 1080p.

⚡Performance

Vivo V40 Pro is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chipset, which is a significant upgrade from previous model. This chipset, combined with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, gives phone flagship-level performance. While Dimensity 9200+ is not newest chip on market, it still provides a noticeable boost in speed and power.

This upgrade makes Vivo V40 Pro suitable for more demanding tasks, including gaming. In benchmark tests, phone outperforms similarly priced alternatives like Pixel 8a and even comes close to performance of more expensive models like Galaxy S24. Phone handles games well, maintaining a solid frame rate even at high settings, though it does get a bit warm during extended gaming sessions.

Another improvement with V40 Pro is addition of dual stereo speakers. While sound quality isn’t exceptional, with a lack of bass and a slightly tinny sound, speakers are clear and can get quite loud, making them a nice addition for gaming and media consumption.

🛠️ Software

Vivo V40 Pro runs Funtouch OS 14, which is based on Android 14. This software is user-friendly and doesn’t stray too far from stock Android experience. It’s highly customizable, allowing you to change everything from colors and icons to animation style. However, default look might not appeal to everyone.

One downside of software is amount of bloatware that comes pre-installed. When you first boot up phone, you’ll find folders filled with random apps and games, most of which can be removed, but it’s a time-consuming process. Additionally, you might receive frequent notifications from Vivo’s first-party apps, which can also be disabled, but it’s another task that takes time. Once you’ve cleaned up phone, experience improves significantly.

Vivo has also improved its update policy for V40 Pro. Phone will receive three OS upgrades and four years of security patches, which is an improvement over two OS updates and three years of security patches offered on previous V-series models.

🔋Battery Life

Vivo V40 Pro is equipped with a 5500mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is larger than batteries found in many flagship phones. Despite large battery, phone’s chassis remains slim, thanks to Vivo’s BlueVolt battery technology.

In terms of battery life, V40 Pro is impressive. Without much effort, phone can last for two full days on a single charge, and it’s not uncommon to go to bed with 60% of battery remaining. However, heavy usage, like gaming or shooting lots of videos, will require more frequent charging.

When it comes to charging, V40 Pro supports 80W wired FlashCharge, which can take battery from 0% to 60% in just 30 minutes, and a full charge takes about 50 minutes. However, phone does not support wireless charging which is still uncommon in this price range. Hopefully, future V-series models will include this feature.

✅Pros and ❌Cons of Vivo V40 Pro

ProsCons
High-Performance Speed🤖 Limited AI Capabilities
📷 ZEISS-Enhanced Camera System💸 Higher Price Point
🔋 Long-Lasting Battery
🔊 Stereo Sound Quality
💧 Durable with IP68 Water and Dust Resistance

Conclusion: Vivo V40 Pro Review

At first, I thought V40 Pro might not have many changes but it pleasantly surprised me. Large battery is major plus, providing great usability and upgraded processor delivers excellent gaming performance. New dual stereo speakers are a nice addition, even if they aren’t best in terms of sound quality.

Cameras are still impressive offering excellent selfies and great portrait effects with Zeiss image processing. However, phone does get warm during gaming and it could benefit from a metal frame and less bloatware.

Overall, it’s a fantastic phone and offers good value for money. Availability might be limited, mostly to India and some European countries but if it’s available in your region, it’s definitely worth considering.

Vivo V40 Pro released shortly after V30 Pro, brings key upgrades like stereo speakers, better water resistance, a larger battery, improved ZEISS cameras and a faster Dimensity 9200+ chipset. However, these enhancements come with a higher price of Rs 49,999.
