Xiaomi 14T Pro Review: Flagship Features at a Mid-Range Price

Discover the Xiaomi 14T Pro with fast performance, great cameras, speedy charging, and vibrant display, but cluttered software.

The era of AI phones is here and Xiaomi 14T Pro shows that mid-range phones can be exciting too. It has great hardware, making it easier for more people to explore AI features without spending too much.

Xiaomi improved the design with a nice aluminum frame and a curved back, giving it a premium look and feel. Camera bump is noticeable but adds to the quality.

When you use phone, Xiaomi’s HyperOS runs smoothly. Display and performance make it feel like a much pricier device.

Xiaomi’s approach to AI is more cautious than brands like Google and Samsung. 14T Pro has helpful features like Circle to Search & Gemini, making it a good choice for anyone wanting to use AI in daily life.

If you’re interested in AI or other improvements like wireless charging, 14T Pro is likely to impress you. It offers a lot for a lower price compared to flagship phones.

However, Xiaomi is not available in the U.S., which gives brands like Samsung and OnePlus an advantage. While 14T Pro is affordable for its quality there are premium options for just a little more.

Xiaomi 14T Pro price & availability

Xiaomi 14T Pro starts at £650 for the model with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. Unfortunately, it’s not available in the US or Australia, and there’s no price increase from the previous model. This makes 14T Pro a great value, as it keeps the same price while offering upgrades like a sturdy aluminum frame and wireless charging. This means you’re getting more for your money which is rare among smartphones today.

In terms of pricing across different regions, 14T Pro is priced as follows: in the UK, 256GB + 12GB RAM model costs £650 while in the EU, it’s priced at €799. 512GB + 12GB RAM version is £699 in the UK and €899 in the EU. For 1TB + 12GB RAM variant, price is £799 in the UK and €999 in the EU.

Despite being a high-value phone, limited availability of 14T Pro is frustrating. Xiaomi’s presence in the US has declined making it difficult to find their phones there. This is disappointing especially since 14T Pro competes well with options from brands like OnePlus and Samsung. Hopefully, it will be available in the US soon!

Xiaomi 14T Pro design

Xiaomi 14T Pro features a new aluminum frame with a 3D-curved back, offering a more refined design compared to earlier models. It comes in three colors: Titan Grey, Titan Blue and Titan Black. While some expected a titanium build, phone is actually made of aluminum, which still looks and feels premium.

Aluminum frame and curved back give the phone a flagship feel, similar to Google Pixel 8. However, back tends to attract fingerprints easily, which can be annoying. Using the included case helps prevent this but phone can still get smudged.

One of the biggest design improvements is the camera bump. Unlike previous 13T Pro, 14T Pro’s camera bump is smaller and better integrated. While it still takes up a significant portion of phone’s back, it now matches the color of the device, making it look more cohesive. Reduced size also means less wobble when phone is placed flat, adding to the overall usability.

Xiaomi 14T Pro display

Xiaomi 14T Pro features an impressive display that offers excellent brightness and viewing angles. With a resolution of 1220 x 2712 pixels, it sits between FHD and QHD, making it unique to Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices.

Display uses CrystalRes AMOLED technology and supports adaptive refresh rates up to 144Hz, providing a smooth and vibrant experience for activities like gaming, streaming and scrolling through social media. Most of the time, I enjoyed a 120Hz refresh rate which felt very fluid. If you want to save battery, you can also set the refresh rate to a maximum of 60Hz.

One minor issue is that some apps don’t fully utilize the display’s unique resolution, leading to black bars on the sides when in landscape mode. This can be a bit frustrating, especially if you want to take advantage of the 93.3% screen-to-body ratio while watching videos.

However, display shines with a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, ensuring great visibility from almost any angle. While other phones like Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, emphasize readability, Xiaomi 14T Pro offers impressive performance especially on bright days.

Xiaomi 14T Pro Software

Xiaomi 14T Pro uses HyperOS with Android 14 which carefully adds AI features instead of overwhelming users. While it has some preloaded apps like AliExpress and TikTok that can make things feel messy overall layout is clean.

When you start phone, you see a mix of helpful tools and extra apps. Instead of Google Assistant, it uses Google Gemini with new features like Circle to Search coming soon.

Gallery app has improved with easy access to folders and a “Best Take” feature that finds your best photo.

HyperOS aims to connect all Xiaomi devices smoothly making it easy to use. However, some useful features, like AI Subtitles that translate conversations, are hidden in the settings and hard to find.

Xiaomi plans to add more AI features soon like AI Recorder. Overall, HyperOS on Xiaomi 14T Pro is user-friendly and straightforward. It allows quick access to settings and favorite photos giving you a great experience whether you’re listening to music or checking the weather.

Xiaomi 14T Pro Cameras

Xiaomi 14T Pro excels in photography, thanks to its partnership with Leica. However, it has some inconsistencies in capturing light and color vibrancy.

Close-up shots are impressive, often rivaling those of Xiaomi’s best camera phone,14 Ultra. While portrait mode is usually effective, I found the standard mode faster and equally good in focus and exposure.

50MP wide lens offers two shooting styles: Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant. Both modes produce vibrant sometimes overly saturated colors, making scenes look more appealing than they might be in reality.

Night photography is a strong point, with great color and light capture, thanks to AI processing.

However, the camera interface can be confusing. Features like Master Cinema mode lack clear explanations and finding AI tools can take time.

Xiaomi 14T Pro Performance

The Xiaomi 14T Pro features a Dimensity 9300+ chipset, which offers impressive performance, especially in gaming. It scored nearly as high as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in benchmarks, showing it can handle demanding tasks without slowing down. With up to 12GB of RAM (expandable by another 12GB), it performs smoothly even with multiple apps running.

During gaming, like in Call of Duty Mobile and Mortal Kombat, the phone maintained high graphics settings without lag. However, it can get warm, reaching 38 to 40 degrees Celsius (100 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) during gameplay.

Xiaomi 14T Pro Battery

Xiaomi 14T Pro introduces 50W wireless charging, a welcome feature for Xiaomi’s mid-range phones. This is significantly faster than 15W offered by competitors like Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

For wired charging, it boasts 120W HyperCharge, allowing a full charge in about 20 minutes. With a 5000mAh battery, phone lasts multiple days with regular use. In gaming, it drains about 10% per hour, which is impressive given the high graphics settings.

  • You Like Gaming: It handles intense games well without quickly draining the battery.

Don’t Buy If…

  • You Want Lots of AI Features: It has some AI options but not as many as some other phones.
