Design, display, charging Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a refreshed design for 2024 with a new squircle-shaped camera island. It has three cameras and a flash. IR blaster is placed above flash but may be tricky to use for devices positioned high, like an air conditioner.
Phone comes in three colors: Titan Black, Spectre Blue and Phantom Purple. Phantom Purple model features a vegan leather back while others have Gorilla Glass 7i. Phone is made of plastic with a glossy finish on sides and a matte finish on top and bottom. It features an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water.
6.67-inch AMOLED display has a resolution of 2717×1220 and supports 120Hz refresh rate and 3000 nits peak brightness. It has good color accuracy but needs some adjustments for optimal color settings. Display supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
Phone has 6200mAh silicon-carbon battery with 90W fast charging. It offers two full days of use, though charging has slowed down compared to the previous model. Full charging now takes almost hour, compared to 15 minutes before.
Fingerprint sensor on the screen is fast but placed low and it can also measure your heart rate, though it can be inaccurate. Phone also features haptic feedback using a loud motor.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Software, performance
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ comes with Xiaomi HyperOS 1 on Android 14 which are already outdated since newer versions (HyperOS 2 and Android 15) have been released. Xiaomi offers three Android updates and four years of security patches.
Software experience is similar to other Xiaomi phones but Indian version includes a lot of bloatware and ads. There are also over 20 AI features, many of which are yet to be available.
Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset powers phone with 8GB or 12GB RAM and storage options from 128GB to 512GB. However, compared to competitors like OnePlus Nord 4, performance is average. Basic apps run fine but apps like camera app can be slow especially when switching lenses or applying effects. Gaming also has some frame rate issues.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Camera
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has triple rear camera setup: 50MP OmniVision Light Hunter 800 sensor, 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1 telephoto camera with 2.5x zoom and 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide camera. Front camera is a 20MP sensor, but itโs a fixed-focus camera that upscales images to 20MP.
Camera app is easy to use with zoom options from 0.6x to 5x. Main 50MP camera captures decent photos but colors can be slightly cooler and focus can sometimes miss. 2x digital zoom isnโt great, as it just crops and enlarges 1x image. 2.5x optical zoom gives better results with more detail but colors donโt always match main camera. 5x digital zoom also produces usable images.
0.6x ultra-wide camera is underwhelming with less detail and shifted colors. For video, Redmi Note 14 Pro+ can record 4K at 30fps with the main and telephoto cameras offering good quality but with some autofocus issues. Ultra-wide camera, however, produces poor 1080p video with lots of motion artifacts and soft images.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Pros and Cons
Pros ๐ข | Cons ๐ด |
---|---|
๐ Great design | โ No Android 15 |
๐ Long battery life | โ No 4K 60fps video |
๐ธ Excellent cameras | โ Bloatware included |
๐ก Bright AMOLED screen | ๐ด |
๐ง Water & dust resistant | ๐ด |
Conclusion
Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is priced at INR 30,999 (8+128GB), INR 32,999 (8+256GB), and INR 35,999 (12+512GB).
It has a great design, good display and a large battery. However, its hardware feels outdated compared to competitors, affecting its performance. Cameras are decent but lack 60fps 4K video recording. Although battery is bigger, charging speed is slower.
With higher prices and software filled with ads and bloatware, Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus faces tough competition. If battery life, a telephoto camera and HyperOS are your priorities, it’s a good choice, but other phones offer better overall value.
