Vivo V30 Pro Review: Stunning Display, Powerful Performance

Discover the vivo V30 Pro: a sleek smartphone with a powerful camera, fast charging, and stunning display for a premium experience.

In the mid-range market, Vivo’s V series has always prioritized svelte designs and strong cameras, and in 2024, they’re raising the ante. Zeiss camera technology has improved the new Vivo V30 and Vivo V30 Pro, making them even more exciting.

Like Vivo, Xiaomi introduced Leica-tuned cameras in its mid-range 13T series last year but Vivo stands out with its stunning design. V30 Pro is the thinnest and sleekest phone I’ve used this year.

Cameras are a major highlight, featuring three 50MP cameras on the back which are a big upgrade from last year’s models. There’s also 50MP front camera that takes excellent selfies.

Phone features an attractive back design, and Vivo managed to fit a 5000mAh battery into a 7.45mm thick handset. After over a week of use, I think Vivo V30 Pro is an excellent option for anyone hoping to upgrade to a mid-range phone in 2024.

Vivo V30 Pro Pricing and Release Date

Vivo announced V30 Pro on February 28, 2024 and it will be available for purchase in select regions in coming weeks. Phone will first launch in Indonesia and Thailand with a release in India scheduled for March 7 along with standard V30 model. Other regions that will see the phone include Malaysia, Philippines and Taiwan.

In terms of pricing, V30 Pro will be sold for IDR 7,999,000 (approximately $510) in Indonesia and THB 19,999 (about $555) in Thailand. Vivo is offering two configurations for the V30 Pro in global markets: a base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and higher-end version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

This release is expected to attract many users looking for a stylish and powerful mid-range smartphone, especially with its advanced camera features and sleek design.

Vivo V30 Pro Design

Vivo makes stylish phones and V30 Pro is one of its best. It’s very slim and lightweight with a clean back design.

Camera area looks nice and is flat so phone doesn’t wobble when placed on a table. Camera lenses are in smaller rings this year which looks better.

A cool feature is the Aura Light, a flash that provides softer and brighter light for photos in low light. This helps keep camera area compact.

Bloom White color is pretty, with a soft white-to-blue gradient that looks like flower petals. Back has a nice shimmer and feels smooth.

I have V30 in Bloom White and V30 Pro in Noble Black. Black version looks simple and elegant and it doesn’t show fingerprints. Phone has smooth edges, making it easy to hold.

Since the sides are sleek, I recommend using a clear case which is included. Power and volume buttons are on the right side and SIM card tray is at the bottom. Top has a metal plate that says “Professional Portrait.”

V30 Pro has an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance which is decent. It’s not as good as some other phones but it still offers some protection. Phone feels a bit tall but overall design is great.

Vivo V30 Pro: Display

Vivo V30 Pro features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This means screen has bright colors and great detail. It performs well outdoors, reaching up to 2800 nits in HDR content and 1200 nits in bright sunlight.

You can customize the display with Vivo’s always-on mode which offers various styles. Screen is excellent for watching videos and playing games. By default, it uses Smart Switch for refresh rates but you can change it manually between 60Hz and 120Hz in the settings.

While phone is a bit wide, its slim design makes it comfortable to use daily. Curved screen adds a stylish touch. There is stereo sound but it isn’t very loud or detailed. Overall, display is impressive for its size and quality.

Vivo V30 Pro: Performance and Battery

Vivo V30 Pro uses the same Dimensity 8200 chip as V29 Pro and V27 Pro. This chip works well for daily tasks but it has older cores that aren’t as powerful as newer ones used in many smartphones today. So, while it’s not slow, it doesn’t perform as well as some competitors, especially in gaming.

V30 Pro struggles with gaming and might not keep up with more powerful phones. Casual gamers will find it acceptable but demanding games may run slowly unless settings are lowered. Phone stays cool during use even if it warms up a bit.

In terms of connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and 5G but it uses older USB 2.0 port, limiting its usability beyond charging.

5000mAh battery lasts all day even with heavy use and charges fully in about 45 minutes with included 80W charger.

Vivo V30 Pro: Cameras

V30 Pro offers a solid camera setup with three 50MP cameras on the back:

  • Main Camera: 50MP with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
  • Wide-Angle Camera: 50MP with autofocus.
  • Zoom Camera: 50MP with 2x optical zoom.

The front camera is also 50MP, making it great for selfies.

A new feature is the Aura Light which is like a mini ring light that helps take better photos in low light. You can choose between warm and cool lighting, and it can turn on automatically when it’s dark.

Camera has several modes including Vivid (bright colors) and Zeiss Natural (accurate colors). Interface is user-friendly, offering various shooting modes and settings.

In good lighting, V30 Pro takes great photos with nice colors and details. Zoom lens is especially good for portraits offering six different bokeh styles.

In low light, V30 Pro performs well, producing clear shots, although wide-angle lens may struggle a bit.

Vivo V30 Pro: Software

V30 Pro runs on Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14. Software is smooth and customizable. Vivo promises updates for four years which is good but it only guarantees two major Android updates while competitors offer more.

Overall, Vivo V30 Pro stands out for its excellent camera and solid battery life, though it could improve in performance and software updates.

Vivo V30 Pro Pros and Cons

ProsCons
🌟 Thin and stylish design⚙️ Uses old hardware
📸 Great cameras🚫 No wireless charging
🤳 Excellent selfie camera📉 Fewer software updates
✅ Better software💰 More expensive than before
🔋 Long battery life with fast charging

Conclusion

V30 Pro has significant upgrades from the previous model. It features three 50MP cameras on the back, providing one of best camera setups in its class. Design is sleek, making it thinner and lighter than many competitors. It also has a large battery with 80W charging, good software and Zeiss lenses that add new shooting modes and effects. Although it is more expensive than last year’s model, these upgrades make it a great option for anyone looking for mid-range phone focused on photography.
