Honor Magic7 Pro Review

Honor Magic7 Pro offers high performance, a stunning OLED display, fast charging, and advanced features like 3D face unlock and AI tools.

Honor Magic7 Pro, which launched in China a few months ago, is now available globally. It has a versatile camera setup, a powerful new chipset and an upgraded IP rating, but are these upgrades enough? Let’s find out.

Camera system remains mostly the same as last year, which isn’t a bad thing. It features a 200MP telephoto camera and a high-res selfie camera with autofocus, which is quite rare.

Phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and has an IP68/IP69 rating, meaning it’s water-resistant and can even be pressure washed (to an extent). These aren’t standout features but keep the phone competitive.

Magic7 Pro also has a silicon carbon battery, though the capacity differs by region. In some areas, it may have less battery life, which means we should expect a lower-end battery experience.

Honor Magic7 Pro Specs at a glance:

Honor Magic7 Pro Design, build quality and handling

Honor Magic7 Pro keeps last year’s design but adds some fresh touches. Display is slightly flatter, the sides are thicker, and the camera island is more circular. These changes are subtle, but the phone looks modern and distinctive.

Fingerprint reader has been upgraded from optical to ultrasonic offering more reliable unlocks, even with wet or dirty fingers. It’s quick and works well in bright light.

Another upgrade is the IP68/IP69 rating, meaning Magic7 Pro can withstand submersion up to 1.5m for 30 minutes and high-pressure water jets up to 80Β°C (though we don’t recommend testing this).

Review unit is in Lunar Shadow Grey, with a smooth, silky finish. Other color options include Breeze Blue, Black, and Snowy White (only in China). The rear panel is made of glass and is slippery, while the display is protected by NanoCrystal Shield glass, which offers improved drop resistance. The frame is made of aluminum.

Honor Magic7 Pro Display, battery life, charging speed and speakers

Honor Magic7 Pro features a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 1,280×2,800 resolution offering a crisp and bright viewing experience. It has an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The display adjusts brightness automatically, reaching over 1,500 nits in our tests, which is great for most conditions. For gaming, it supports up to 120Hz, but not all games hit this mark.

Phone also includes HDR support for streaming services like YouTube and Netflix, though its performance with Ultra HDR photos could be better.

Magic7 Pro offers good battery life with 5,270mAh (or 5,850mAh in some regions). It supports 9 hours of gaming and 14.5 hours of video playback. The 100W fast charging fully charges it in 36 minutes.

Magic7 Pro also supports wireless charging at up to 80W. Phone’s hybrid stereo speakers deliver impressive loudness, and it earned an “Excellent” rating for sound quality. Speakers provide clear, boomy audio, although distortion can occur at maximum volume.

Honor Magic7 Pro Software and performance

Magic7 Pro runs Android 15 with MagicOS 9 and promises 5 years of updates. MagicOS is user-friendly, featuring a pill-shaped Magic Capsule for notifications, resizable folders and a Magic Portal for quick tasks. AI tools include text summaries, voice-to-text, and a Deepfake Detection tool (launching in April).

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU, it offers 12GB to 512GB memory options. It scores well on Antutu and GeekBench, making it great for gaming and daily tasks but struggles with long, intensive 3D rendering.

Honor Magic7 Pro Camera, photo and video quality

Honor Magic7 Pro has the same triple-camera setup as the previous model, with a 200MP telephoto camera, a dual-aperture main camera, and a high-quality selfie camera. Hardware hasn’t changed much, but the setup includes:

  • Main camera: 50MP, with a large sensor for sharp and vibrant daytime shots.
  • Telephoto camera: 200MP, now offering 3x zoom compared to the previous 2.5x zoom.
  • Ultrawide camera: 50MP, similar to the previous model.
  • Front camera: 50MP, capable of 4K video.

In daylight, the main camera delivers vibrant photos with good detail and wide dynamic range. Portrait shots look natural, though they can lack some fine detail. The telephoto camera performs well at 3x zoom, though photos can lose sharpness due to cropping and upscaling. For cleaner, sharper zoomed-in shots, using 2x zoom is a better option.

Magic7 Pro continues the same camera performance as its predecessor, with slight improvements in zoom and video quality.

Pros and Cons of Honor Magic7 Pro

βœ…Pros❌Cons
🌊 Durable IP69 designπŸ”‹ Smaller battery for Europe
🌟 High-quality OLED with Dolby VisionπŸ“¦ No charger included in the box (Europe)

Conclusion

Magic7 Pro impresses with its premium quality and unique features. The pill-shaped display cutout houses a selfie camera and 3D face scanner, a rare find on Android phones. Its loud speakers are another standout feature.

However, zoom camera falls short due to heavy reliance on digital magnification, and the smaller battery for European units raises concerns. While Magic7 Pro has solid hardware, it doesn’t deliver the camera performance we expected.
