Poco X6 Neo Review: Powerful Performance on a Budget

Poco X6 Neo offers great performance, solid camera quality, and sleek design, but is held back by ads and software issues. A good budget pick.

Poco X6 Neo is the most affordable option in the X6 series. While X6 and X6 Pro share some features with Xiaomi’s Redmi devices, the X6 Neo is basically Redmi Note 13R Pro with a different name. This review serves as a chance to explore both models together.

Key Features

As budget model, X6 Neo lacks some advanced features found in pricier versions. It has a single camera on the back and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chip. However, it boasts some appealing features, including:

  • A sleek design, reportedly the thinnest for a Poco device
  • A 120Hz AMOLED display
  • A 108MP camera with lossless 3x zoom

With a starting price of INR 15,999 (around $192), it’s significantly cheaper than X6 and X6 Pro. Let’s explore what you get for this price.

Unboxing Experience

Poco X6 Neo comes in the standard black and yellow Poco box. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Phone itself
  • A 33W charger
  • A USB-A to USB-C cable
  • A black silicone case

The case is slim and features a cutout for the fingerprint sensor, making it easy to find. However, USB port flap is a bit stiff and camera area is left exposed for design reasons which may risk damage.

Poco X6 Neo Design

Poco X6 Neo is very thin, measuring just 7.7mm. It’s the thinnest Poco phone so far and feels slim even with a case.

Phone is mostly plastic, except for the Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, making it feel nicer than other budget phones.

Martian Orange version has a shiny, colorful back that sparkles in the light while Astral Black and Horizon Blue options are more plain.

On the back, there’s a big camera area with two lenses but only one is useful. It also has an LED flash and a decorative circle. Camera area shines like the back of the phone.

Front has thin edges and a small camera hole at the top. All buttons are on the right side and the top has a headphone jack and an IR blaster.

Poco X6 Neo Display

Poco X6 Neo has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 and a 120Hz refresh rate. It can get very bright, reaching up to 1000 nits and shows vibrant colors.

You can choose from three color modes:

  • Vivid (bright colors but a bit blue)
  • Saturated (always bright and warm)
  • Standard (natural colors)

In Standard mode, colors look good but auto-brightness isn’t great; it doesn’t get as bright as it should in direct sunlight.

Phone doesn’t support HDR. When watching videos, it enhances colors automatically which can be annoying. You can turn this off but it resets after restarting the phone.

Refresh rate changes from 120Hz to 60Hz when you’re not using the screen which can cause some games to lag unless you keep tapping.

Poco X6 Neo Charging Speed

Poco X6 Neo supports 33W fast charging. It charges about 57% in 30 minutes and fully charges in about an hour. This is decent for most users. You can turn off fast charging to help battery last longer.

Poco X6 Neo Audio

Phone has a single speaker at bottom which is unusual for its Dolby Atmos support. Sound can be a bit weak but Dolby Atmos helps improve it.

It has a headphone jack for better audio quality.

For Bluetooth, phone lists many sound codecs but only supports a few: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD and LDAC. It’s missing a feature that syncs the phone’s volume with Bluetooth devices, making it tricky to adjust sound levels.

Poco X6 Neo Software

Poco X6 Neo runs on MIUI 14 based on Android 13. It looks different from MIUI on Redmi and Xiaomi phones. Some visual effects are turned off because it’s a budget phone.

You can change the phone’s look with themes but you can’t easily change icons unless you use a different app.

To lock apps in memory, you have to go to Security app which isn’t very convenient.

Settings app is also different from other Android phones and search feature often doesn’t work well.

You will find pre-installed apps and ads in the company’s apps, which can be annoying.

Poco X6 Neo Performance

Poco X6 Neo uses the MediaTek Dimensity 6080 processor and comes in two options: 8GB RAM with 128GB storage or 12GB RAM with 256GB storage.

Its performance is okay but can be slow at times like when opening apps or videos. Scrolling in some apps can also feel choppy. This is likely due to software issues.

Poco X6 Neo Camera

Poco X6 Neo has two cameras: a 108MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. You mainly use the 108MP camera, which also offers 3x lossless digital zoom.

Camera app is simple and has a Pro mode, but you can’t take RAW photos. Pro mode includes helpful tools like a histogram and focus peaking.

108MP camera takes good photos, especially in normal mode but Auto HDR sometimes doesn’t work well, which can lead to bright spots in photos.

You can take pictures in the full 108MP mode, which captures more detail, but it may not look great in bad lighting since it doesn’t use some image enhancements.

3x zoom takes clear and detailed pictures but 2x zoom usually has lower quality because it just crops the normal image.

Poco X6 Neo Video Quality

For video, you can record in 1080p at 30fps. The stabilization helps keep videos steady, but the quality is average, which is okay for social media.

Conclusion

Poco X6 Neo is stylish and comfortable to hold. It has a nice display and good camera performance for its price. However, software has ads and extra apps that can be annoying.
