Realme 14 Pro+ Review

Realme 14 Pro Plus offers a bright OLED display, versatile cameras, and solid performance, making it a great choice for budget-conscious users.

Realme 14 series, which includes Realme 14x, Realme 14 Pro, and Realme 14 Pro Plus, aims to take market share from the Redmi Note 14 models. Letโ€™s focus on the Realme 14 Pro+, the most premium model.

The Realme 14 Pro+ is now fully waterproof, has a bigger, sharper screen, a new Qualcomm chip, and an upgraded battery. It’s IP68/IP69-rated for water and dust resistance and it meets military-grade shock resistance standards. The Pear White version even changes color to blue when itโ€™s cool.

Phone features a large 6.83-inch OLED screen with a 1272p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. Itโ€™s powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip.

For the camera, the 14 Pro+ still has a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto and an 8MP ultrawide but with new sensors and lenses. The 32MP selfie camera now has autofocus and tracks faces and eyes. The new triple flash system, called MagicGlow, improves lighting balance for better photo quality.

The biggest change is the 6,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging. It also runs on Android 15 with Realme UI 6.

Realme 14 Pro+ Design and Build Quality

The Realme 14 Pro+ may not impress with its design at first, but it has some cool features. It has a 4-curved screen glass, which is just a fancy name for the usual 2.5D curved edges.

This phone is the first in its series to have full water protection. Itโ€™s IP66 for dust and water jets and IP68 for submersion in water up to 2m for 48 hours. It also has IP69, meaning it can handle pressurized hot water jets. On top of that, the phone has shock protection with reinforced internal parts.

Realme is known for bold colors, and the Pearl White version changes color with temperature! When it gets cold (below 16ยฐC or 61ยฐF), blue swirls appear on the back, and when it warms up, it turns back to off-white. Unfortunately, this effect fades over time and lasts about a year under normal use.

The Realme 14 Pro+ has a Gorilla Glass 7i front, a thin plastic frame, and a plastic back that may come with a cold-sensitive layer or vegan leather.

The phone is thin, lightweight, and feels nice to hold. The 6.83-inch OLED screen takes up most of the front, with thin bezels and a small hole for the 32MP selfie camera. Thereโ€™s also an under-display fingerprint sensor and an earpiece that doubles as a stereo speaker.

On the back, the camera housing is centered with a slight bump. It holds a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3x telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultrawide. The MagicGlow flash is a new feature with three LED modules that help create natural lighting for portraits, even at night. It also adjusts the color temperature of photos for better lighting.

Realme 14 Pro+ may not have premium materials, but itโ€™s well-protected, feels lightweight, and looks great.

Realme 14 Pro Plus Display, Battery and Audio

Display

The Realme 14 Pro+ features a 6.83-inch OLED display (1272 x 2800 pixels) with Gorilla Glass 7i protection and a small punch-hole selfie camera. It supports:

HDR10 works on YouTube, but Netflix and other streaming apps only support 1080p SDR.

The 6,000mAh battery is larger than previous models but delivers average endurance:

Realme 14 Pro+ Software, performance

The Realme 14 Pro+ runs on Android 15 with Realme UI 6, which is based on Color OS 15. The phone may get up to three OS upgrades and four years of security patches, following Realmeโ€™s commitment to the GT 7 Pro flagship.

Realme UI 6 has some AI features like the Circle to Search and Gemini Assistant. It also includes Smart Sidebar for floating apps and tools like heart rate monitoring and water ejection from the speaker. The Photos app has AI features like AI Eraser and AI Ultra Clarity, but theyโ€™re not always reliable.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, offering better performance than its predecessor, with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In benchmarks, it performs similarly to other phones with the same chip, but it excels in GPU and NPU tasks.

The Realme 14 Pro+ delivers great sustained performance, with an 88% CPU stability score and 99% GPU stability, making it a solid option. However, the Poco X7 Pro offers better power at a similar price.

Realme 14 Pro+ Camera, photo and video quality

Realme 14 Pro+ has a triple-camera setup, similar to the previous model, the Realme 13 Pro+. It includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3x zoom camera, and an 8MP ultrawide camera. The main and telephoto cameras use new sensors, and the front camera has autofocus.

Main Camera: 50MP with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), captures detailed but not exceptionally sharp photos, with good color and dynamic range.

Telephoto Camera (3x zoom): 50MP with OIS, produces detailed and sharp photos with vivid colors, good dynamic range and little noise.

Ultrawide Camera: 8MP, captures solid photos, though not extremely sharp but consistent in color and contrast.

Selfie Camera: 32MP, with autofocus for clearer selfies offering good colors and a wide dynamic range.

Low-light Performance: Camera performs well in low light especially the main and 3x zoom cameras, with bright, detailed photos and minimal noise. The ultrawide camera doesn’t excel at night but can still capture decent images.

Phone also includes a “MagicGlow” LED flash which is supposed to give better lighting for portraiture, resulting in a more natural appearance.

Pros and Cons of Realme 14 Pro+

โœ…ProsโŒCons
๐ŸŒŸ Great design and protection๐Ÿšซ No HDR video support
๐ŸŒˆ Bright OLED, 120Hz๐Ÿ”‹ Short battery life
โšก Fast charging๐Ÿ”Š Weak speakers
๐Ÿš€ Good performance๐ŸŽฅ Poor video quality (except selfie)
๐Ÿ“ธ Reliable cameras๐Ÿšซ No charger included in the EU
๐Ÿ“ฑ Android 15 with AI features๐Ÿšซ

Conclusion

The Realme 14 Pro+ is a solid mid-range phone but has limited availability. It was once a strong competitor to the Redmi series, mainly in India.

It offers a bright OLED screen, good performance and a versatile camera that works well day and night. The Realme UI is smooth and familiar.

However, its battery life is average, the speakers lack quality and video recording isnโ€™t great.

Despite this, itโ€™s a good alternative to Redmi Note 14 Pro+ at around โ‚ฌ400 especially if you want multiple cameras. In India, itโ€™s worth considering.
