Sony Xperia 10 IV: A Review of Its Performance Prowess

Discover the performance prowess of Sony Xperia 10 IV in our detailed review, exploring its features, camera, and more!

Sony Xperia 10 IV is a mix of pros and cons. It does well in some areas but not in others and its price is fair for what it offers. While it’s a decent option for some, it doesn’t stand out much in its price range.

It’s the cheapest Xperia for 2022, sitting below flagship Xperia 1 IV. There’s no Xperia 5 IV yet which would be in between these models.

On the plus side, battery life is excellent and can last up to two days. However, slow charging and no wireless charging are downsides.

The build and screen quality are good, typical for Sony but there’s a lot of plastic and screen refresh rate is limited to 60Hz.

Camera performs well for the price but has some inconsistencies and struggles in low light.

It’s a solid phone for the price especially if you’re already a fan of Sony’s Xperia line. But with many other budget phones out there, it’s worth researching before deciding.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Price and Availability

Sony Xperia 10 IV is priced at $449 in the US and £429 in the UK. It’s not officially available in Australia but price would be around AU$650 if it were. Depending on where you live, prices may vary slightly or you might find special offers. Phone has been available in the US and UK since June 2022.

At this price, Xperia 10 IV sits in lower mid-range category, above cheapest budget phones but still affordable. For what you pay, phone offers decent value, especially if you’re looking for something in this price bracket. While it’s not a high-end phone, it delivers enough features and performance to justify its cost if you set your expectations accordingly.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Design

Sony Xperia 10 IV has a design similar to Xperia 10 III. It’s a compact phone made of plastic and glass with slightly rounded corners.

It is slim at 8.3mm thick, weighs 161 grams and has a 6-inch display, making it one of the smaller Android phones. Matte finish on the sides and back gives it a clean look, and it feels sturdy and comfortable to hold.

Volume and power buttons are on the right side with power button also working as a fingerprint sensor. SIM card tray which can hold microSDXC card, is on the left. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack on top and a USB-C port on the bottom. No charger or cable comes in the box, so you’ll need to use your own.

You can get the phone in four colors: black, white, Mint and Lavender. We tested black model which has simple but practical design.

Xperia 10 IV is also dustproof and water-resistant. It can survive being underwater up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes but it’s best not to get it wet if you can avoid it.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Display Features

Sony Xperia 10 IV comes with 6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels. Screen is bright, vivid and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, making it more scratch-resistant than many other phones.

While bezels around the display are not super-thin, they are acceptable. One downside is 60Hz refresh rate which isn’t as smooth as 90Hz or 120Hz panels found on many competitors. It’s still fine for everyday use but you might notice the difference if you’re used to higher refresh rates.

Display works well for streaming videos and browsing social media. However, its relatively small 6-inch size might feel a bit cramped for those who prefer larger screens.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Camera

Sony Xperia 10 IV features a triple-lens rear camera system with 12MP wide, 8MP telephoto and 8MP ultrawide lens. It also has 8MP front camera for selfies. While camera setup is similar to its predecessor, performance is a mix of good and bad.

You can take some great photos with the rear camera but at times, issues with focus and color accuracy can affect the results. HDR works well most of the time, though it can sometimes struggle. Camera app offers many settings to adjust which might help improve consistency.

Low-light performance is average which is expected for a phone in this price range. The night mode helps but results aren’t outstanding. On the plus side, phone offers 2x optical zoom and optical image stabilization which are nice features for the price.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Performance and Specs

Sony Xperia 10 IV runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. It also supports 5G.

Performance is generally smooth, though there can be some lag with more demanding apps. For everyday tasks and games, it works well but it’s a mid-range phone, so don’t expect top-level speed.

Its Geekbench scores (660 single-core, 1819 multi-core) reflect its mid-range performance, lower than high-end phones like the Google Pixel 6a.

Single speaker is not very strong, so if you enjoy music or movies, you might find it lacking. However, 3.5mm headphone jack supports Sony’s 360 Reality Audio and DSEE Ultimate for better sound quality with headphones.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Software

Xperia 10 IV runs Android 12 with minimal changes from the standard version. There’s little bloatware, just a Sony Music app, Facebook and LinkedIn, all of which can be uninstalled. Software is clean and there’s a useful Side Sense feature for quick access to your favorite apps, though you can turn it off if you don’t need it.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Battery Life

One of the standout features of Xperia 10 IV is its 5,000mAh battery which can last for two days with regular use. This is great for those who don’t want to charge their phone every night.

However, charging speeds are slow, taking over two hours to fully charge the phone. Also, there’s no wireless charging and you’ll need to use USB-C cable (which isn’t included in the box).

Despite these drawbacks, battery life itself is excellent. In a test where phone streamed video for an hour at maximum brightness, battery only dropped by 3%, meaning you could get over 30 hours of video playback in total.

Sony Xperia 10 IV Pros and Cons

ProsCons
✅ Long battery life❌ Moderate performance
📸 Good camera features⚠️ Camera can be inconsistent
🔨 Sturdy build📉 60Hz display refresh rate
📏 Compact and lightweight🚫 No wireless charging
🌧️ Water and dust resistant🔊 Sound quality is weak
👍 Easy to use⚡ No charger in the box

Conclusion

Sony Xperia 10 IV is both exciting and frustrating at times. However, overall, it does well and will likely attract fans of compact phones and Xperia series.
