Poco M6 5G Design and Build
Design of a smartphone is the first thing people notice and Poco has named design of M6 5G “Premium Sky Dance.” It comes in two colors: Orion Blue and Galactic Black; I received Galactic Black for this review. The back of the phone looks impressive and is one of the glossiest I’ve seen. While it’s made of polycarbonate, phone doesn’t feel cheap at all. Orion Blue color shines beautifully in light and the matte finish on the frame adds to its appeal. Plus, it resists smudges, keeping it looking clean.
At the back, there’s a black rectangular camera module with two lenses and LED flash. Poco’s branding is next to the cameras, with a small “5G” label at the bottom. Smartphone is light and easy to hold, measuring just 8mm thick and weighing only 195 grams. Front features a display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is impressive for a phone priced under ₹10,000.
In terms of functionality, Poco M6 5G has volume buttons and a power button on the right side, while the left side has slots for a microSD card and SIM cards. Bottom edge includes a USB Type-C port and a speaker grille and there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top edge for those who prefer wired headphones.
Poco M6 5G Display
Poco M6 5G features a 6.74-inch Full HD LCD display with a resolution of 1600×720 pixels. While display offers decent visuals and vibrant colors, it doesn’t have the sharpness of a Full HD+ screen which is expected at this price point.
90Hz refresh rate is smooth when scrolling through social media and websites. Maximum brightness of 600 nits is acceptable for indoor use but the screen can be hard to see outdoors even at full brightness. Overall, display is good for watching videos and offers rich colors. Plus, Poco M6 has Widevine L1 certification, allowing you to stream HD videos.
Smartphone has a single down-firing speaker that is loud enough for personal use but it may struggle to fill a medium-sized room. Additionally, audio lacks depth and character.
Poco M6 5G Performance
Poco M6 5G has a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chip, which is also in new Redmi 13C. This chip supports 5G, so you can enjoy modern features for under 10,000 INR. It works well with major networks in India. Phone performs well for everyday tasks like calling, texting, listening to music, watching videos & playing light games like Candy Crush.
However, if you open more than 3 or 4 heavy apps at once, phone may lag, freeze or crash. It’s not great for video or photo editing, playing demanding games like COD Mobile or running many heavy apps at the same time. If you mainly want 5G and use your phone lightly, Poco M6 is a good choice. But if you’re a gamer, you might want to consider other options.
With 256GB of storage & 8GB of RAM, phone operates smoothly and offers lots of room for your files. It runs Android 13 with MIUI 14 which provides a plethora of customization options. Poco guarantees three years of security fixes and two years of software updates. However, it comes with many pre-installed apps that take up about 30GB of space. You can uninstall these apps if you don’t need them which will help free up storage.
Poco M6 5G Cameras
Poco M6 5G features a dual camera setup on the back including 50MP main camera and an AI camera. With HDR capability, the primary camera produces images with a good dynamic range. Daylight-shot photos exhibit excellent tonality and crisp detail, even at high magnification. The colors are lively and not excessively bright, which is equally true for pictures taken inside. An AI camera can capture good images fit for social media.
On the front, there is 5MP selfie camera that captures images with accurate skin tones and good clarity. Edge detection is decent and the highlights are not blown out, giving natural-looking selfies while keeping the subject in focus.
Poco M6 5G Battery Life and Charging
Poco M6 5G has a big 5000mAh battery that lasts over a day with light to moderate use. If you use it heavily like for gaming or watching videos for a long time, you might need to charge it by the end of the day. Phone comes with a 10W charging adapter but it supports 18W fast charging. Unfortunately, the included adapter charges the phone slowly, taking over 3 hours to go from 0% to 100%. If you want faster charging, you’ll need to buy a separate adapter for Rs. 499, as standard charger can feel too slow.
