Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Global Edition Design and build

Redmi Note 14 Pro and Pro+ stand out in the lineup with a unique design featuring a centered camera island and curved front and back panels. Pro+ also offers a vegan leather option, available in Lavender Purple, alongside Frost Blue and Midnight Black.

Camera island is large and might divide opinions. Phone is IP68 certified with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protecting the display and Gorilla Glass 7i on the back for non-leather models. Leather variant is slightly lighter but still feels sturdy at 205g. Its curved panels provide a comfortable grip, making it easy to use one-handed.

Leather version features faux stitching for a classy touch. While the fingerprint reader is quick and reliable, its location near the bottom of the screen may be improved.

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a premium and ergonomic design that sets it apart from other Redmi Note 14 models even if the large camera island isn’t to everyone’s taste.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Global Edition Display, battery life, charging speed and speakers

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ features a 6.67-inch OLED curved display with a resolution of 1,220 x 2,717px. It supports 12-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The maximum brightness reaches 1,200 nits, making it suitable for bright environments.

The phone has three refresh rate modes: Default, 60Hz and 120Hz, but the Default mode seems to stick at 120Hz. The display performs well in apps and streaming, though some apps lock it to 60Hz.

It has a 5,110 mAh battery, slightly larger than last year’s 5,000 mAh, and supports 120W fast charging, which fully charges the battery in about 21 minutes.

Battery performance for activities like web browsing and video playback is not great, but charging speed is top-tier, easily surpassing competitors. The phone also features hybrid stereo speakers, with decent loudness and improved bass.

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ offers a solid display, fast charging and decent sound, though battery life could be better.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Global Edition Software and performance

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ uses HyperOS 1.0 based on Android 14, even though Android 15 came out later in 2024. It’s expected to get 3 major updates and 4 years of security patches.

The phone has the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, which works well for regular tasks but has slower storage (UFS 2.2) compared to last year’s model. This affects performance in some tests.

Despite this, the phone performed well under stress tests and did not overheat. It’s adequate for regular use and gaming, but not the quickest in its price range.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Global Edition Camera performance

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a 200MP main camera with the same setup as last year’s model. The main camera is great for detail and sharpness but it struggles with dynamic range, sometimes making shadows too dark or highlights too bright. There is some oversharpening in some photos too.

The selfie camera is upgraded to 20MP but still delivers soft, blurry photos and sometimes the focus isn’t quite right.

In low-light conditions, the main camera does better than in daylight, providing cleaner and sharper photos. However, zoom features (like 2x, 4x) can become soft and noisy, especially in low light.

The ultrawide camera isn’t as strong, with soft, blurry images and poor dynamic range, especially in low light.

For video, it supports 4K at 30fps with good stabilization, clear footage, and vibrant colors. The ultrawide video lacks sharpness and color, while the main camera’s low-light video is surprisingly good for its price.

Pros and Cons of Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Global Edition

ProsCons
🛡️ Durable build, IP68 rating💰 Expensive
📱 Great display with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision🐢 Slow performance, UFS 2.2 storage
❄️ Good battery in cold temps🔋 Short battery life
⚡ Fast charging🌞 Poor daylight photos
🎥 Good video and night photos🚫 No latest Android 15/HyperOS 2

Conclusion

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a strong build, a good screen, new battery technology, solid performance, great video recording, and fast charging.

But it still has the same features as last year’s model, which is now cheaper. We hoped for better battery life, photo quality & performance, but those things haven’t changed. Other phones at this price offer better chips and longer battery life.

The phone doesn’t have major issues, but it doesn’t stand out. It faces strong competition, but as the price drops, it could become a better option.
